This post made me think of the scary movies that I love. I can name a few off the top that really got me. Ghost Story, Ghostbusters (not really scary but great), and the Ring come to mind as all time favorites.

Does anyone else have any to list? This review made me interested in watching a creepy flick.

Jeff/ contributor, "
This caught me.

"I was spoiled with religion. My father is a Lutheran Minister; he’s also a kind, open, loving man. I grew up in a religious household that was also kind, open, and loving. I then went to University and studied religion from one of the sharpest and brightest minds in the field of Religious Studies. All the while, I was allowed the freedom to explore it and understand it on my own terms. So I understand that I come at religion from a different place than most."

I think that religion is not where God wants anyone to be. My read is that today's western preachers are blindly following tradition and following their teachers, not following the Holy Spirit. I on't think pewsitters are allowed a full serving of Christs kindness at our organized churches.

I've tried to explain this at
http://thebigpicmin.wordpress.com/2009/10/25/following-mens-religions-spoils-you-soul/

Perhaps you can see this and deliver your dad from
Those whom God knows not

Tom, thanks for the wonderful resource from BSPHI. It's a great synthesis on research on the topic. You are right--according to their photographic samples my orb seems to clearly fall into the "dust particle" category. The energy orbs they identify--the "true" orbs--have a very distinct look to them.

Hi Ben, What you're most probably seeing here is refraction. If you search for photography and refraction, many great sites will come up.

Orbs are very easy to recreate, and the cheaper the camera, the better the orb pictures seem to be. Orbs can also be caused by rain, hair, etc.

There's a fantastic pdf on this subject from a group out East somewhere, and I've passed it along to many people who wonder about "orbs" and the paranormal. Enjoy:

Mr. Koch,

I just wanted to quickly say that I enjoyed reading your post today. Your metaphor was very interesting to think about, especially as Christmas is just days away. I hope the whole family is having a wonderful Christmas!
